What is the difference between MSA and Stage 1?

MSA
  • MSA is for individuals looking to migrate to Australia. This assessment is a prerequisite for some visa PR applications and evaluates if the applicant's skill and competency meets the Australian standard.
  • English competency can be demonstrated through either standardized English test (IELTS or PTE academic).
  • The CDR pathway for MSA requires applicants to submit a complete CDR including 3 career episodes, one summary statement and one CPD (Continuous Professional Development).
Stage 1
  • Stage 1 assessment is for engineers looking for Engineers Australia membership or to be registered on the Australian National Engineering Register. This assessment is aimed for career advancement and professional recognition within Australia and isn't considered for PR purposes.
  • In addition to the English demonstration options for MSA, English competency for Stage 1 can also be demonstrated through employer statements in official company letterhead.
  • The CDR pathway for Stage 1 doesn’t require applicants to submit a CPD, just three career episodes and a summary statement.
